History

The rapid development of computer technology is one of the hallmarks of modern society. State-of-the-art technologies, which are the main component of the computer, are penetrating all spheres of human activity. Computer technologies are used in manufacturing, libraries, banks, Internet and management systems, design industries, etc. In these circumstances, the demand for information technology specialists continues to grow. Solving this problem is a major challenge for the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronics.

Background:

In 1999, the Department of Radiophysics and Electronics was established at the Physics Faculty of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. From 1999 to 2006, the Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Petro Ivanovich Melnyk, a well-known scientist in the field of materials science.

The Department of Radio Physics and Electronics was established to train specialists for the radio electronics industry. The initiator of the establishment of the department was Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Candidate of Physical and Mechanical Sciences Klanichka M.V.

The first employees of the Department of Radio Physics and Electronics were: Melnyk P.I.; Lishchynsky I.M.; Ph.D. Kohut I.T.; Ph.D. Novosyadlyi S.P.; Zapuhlyak R.I.In 2006, the Department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Viktor Petrovych Makhnii, and from 2006 to 2012, the Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Stepan Petrovych Novosyadlyi, a well-known scientist in the field of microelectronics, with extensive practical experience in the development and implementation of advanced technological processes at microelectronics enterprises “Krystal” (Kyiv), “Positron” (Ivano-Frankivsk).

Since 2012, the department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kohut Igor Timofeevich, a well-known scientist in the field of microelectronics, with extensive practical experience in the development and design of large integrated circuits at the microelectronics enterprise “Positron” (Ivano-Frankivsk). In 2012, the Department of Radio Physics and Electronics was renamed the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronics.

Professional activity. The sphere of activity of specialists of computer engineering is creation, use and maintenance of computer systems of universal and specialized purpose, local and corporate networks, Internet, databases of computer networks, system and application software, specialized computer tools, in particular , embedded microsystems, digital communications, signal and image processing systems, high-performance computer systems. Computer engineering specialists, in comparison with software engineering specialists, are more specialized in systems, including computer hardware, so they have a thorough knowledge of computer architecture, electronics and microelectronics, design of large integrated circuits and hardware systems, development real-time systems hardware and software.

Material-technical base:

Today the department is equipped with six modern laboratories: software systems, computer systems and networks, microprocessor technology, the basics of radio electronics, radio circuits and signals and circuits, auditoriums.
