The department was founded in 2012 by the decision of the Academic Council of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University on the basis of the department of radiophysics and electronics and aims to provide educational and professional programs in the areas of preparation:

Computer engineering specialists, in comparison with software engineering specialists, are more specialized in systems, including computer hardware, so they have a thorough knowledge of computer architecture, electronics and microelectronics, design of large integrated circuits and hardware systems, development real-time systems hardware and software.
